Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company in association with the Royal St George Yacht Club (RSGYC) hosted the 2016 KBC Laser Radial World Championships, with over 350 competitors from 48 countres around the world.
One of the more significant challenges in running the event was how to launch and recover 350 laser dinghys within an hour. The existing slipway in the RSGYC had capacity for approximately 200 boats, so we required a solution for the remaining 150.
We contacted Pontoons Ireland who visited the Harbour and we discussed various options for providing a temporary slipway. Porick Murray was most helpful during this process, and his knowledge of his product, along with sme innovative adaptions helped design the optimum solution for our event. Porick even came up with a sample to test the design.
Pontoons Ireland fully designed the solution, drafted it and provided all insurance / health and safety documentation that was required They optimised costs throughout the process to deliver a value for money solution that really worked. The pontoons arrived on schedule and were installed quickly and without fuss. Several unforseen minor issues were dealt with quickly and efficiently and the entire construction was rewady for testing. All commitee members expectations were exceeded when we launched and recovered the first bosts on the pontoons. The pontoons looked smart, well designed and very suitable for a world class event.
From start to finish, the additional llaunching, recovering and storage pontoon worked flawlessly. Pontoons Ireland were available 'on call' if required, but there was no requirement for this service. In summary, we could not have hosted the event without the additional pontoon, and Pontoons Ireland delivered it in top class fashion. i would be happy to recommend Pontoons Ireland for other events in the future.
